Helter Skelter, Vincent Bugliosi

Bobby Beausoleil

Born in Santa Barbara, California, Bobby was imprisoned July 27, 1969 for the murder of Gary Hinman. The murder of Hinman was over a batch of mescaline that had gone bad.  Manson told Grogan to get the money back from Hinman but he said he had no money to give so Grogan, Brunner, and Atkins held Hinman captive in his own home in hopes of getting some sort of money back before they killed him.

Steve Grogan

Was a high school dropout, who also was a musician before he joined up with the Manson "family." Born on May 24th 1952 Grogan was said to be dumb or retarded by people that knew him.  Grogan was sent with Manson, Atkins and Kasabian to murder actor Saladin Nader, but they went to the wrong apartment and the murder was canceled. Grogan later helped kill the Spahn Ranch hand Donald Shea.  He also is the only Mason "family" member to have been released from prison that has been convicted of murder.

Sandra Good

Sandra Good was born on February 20th 1944, she was not with the "family" during the Tate and LaBianca murders because she was in jail for using stolen credit cards.  Good was the daughter of a stockbroker, when she was four years old her parents got a divorce.  She joined the Manson "family" in 1968 and later she found them a new headquarters at Spahn Ranch.  Although Good was in jail while the murders happened she showed her support by also carving an "X" into her forehead.

Linda Kasabian

Born June 21, 1949 Linda Kasabian is a former member of the Manson "famil." She grew up in Milford, New Hampshire.  She met up with the Manson "family" by hearing about them from one of her friends who told her that a group of hippies were establishing a paradise at a ranch.  It was in 1969 that she traveled with her friend and her daughter to the Spahn Ranch in Los Angeles where she was first introduced to Manson.

Patricia Krenwinkel

Convicted American killer, Patricia Krenwinkel was born on December 3rd, 1947.  She had many aliases during the time she sided with the Manson "family" such as "Big Patty", "Yellow" and "Mary Ann Scott."  Krenwinkel attended University High School and Westchester high school, these both being in the Los Angeles area.  She was often bullied at school for being overweight and having a condition that makes body hair grow more.  She met Charles Manson on Manhattan Beach in California along with Fromme and Brunner when they were known by the Charlie Girls. She later mentioned she had slept with Manson the first night they had met.

Susan "Sadie" Denise Atkins

Born May 7th, 1948 in San Gabriel california, Susan Denise Atkins was a convicted murderer from the Manson "family."  It was in 1967 that Susan met Manson at one of her friends house she was staying at and Manson just happened to be playing guitar there. Her friends house was raided a few weeks later leaving Susan homeless with no where to go, then Manson invited her to go on a roadtrip with his friends in a school bus that they had painted black.  Atkins later claimed to believe that Manson was Jesus, and not to much later she bore Manson's son on October 7th, 1968.  Atkins died on September 24th, 2009 due to natural causes.

Charles "Tex" Watson

Charles Watson was born December 2nd 1945, and is a convicted American murderer for being part of the Manson family murders.  Watson was convicted of the murders of Sharon Tate, Steven Parent, Abigail Folger, Wojciech Frykowski, and Jay Sebring all at the Tate residence and also the murders of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca at the LaBianca residency.  Watson became acquainted with Manson because he had picked up Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys who had been hitchhiking and was invited back to Wilsons house where he met Charles Manson.

Lynette Fromme

Lynette Fromme was a member of the Manson "family"  born on October 2nd 1948.  In 1963 Fromme moved to Redondo beach where she began to drink and take drugs, her grades had dropped significantly in high school but she maintained a high enough GPA to graduate in 1966.  It was the that she moved out of her parents house for a couple of months before her father had convinced her to enroll at El Camino Junior College, where she lasted about two months.  She first met Charles Manson on Venice Beach, she was intrigued by his beliefs and philosophies and the two became acquaintinces. Fromme was never charged with involvement with the murders but was later sentenced to life imprisonment in 1975 for attempting to asassinate President Gerald Ford.

It begins

It was in June of 1969 that Manson told a fellow family member that "the time was now, for Helter Skelter." He also said "Blackie never did anything without whitey showin’ him how it looks like we’re gonna have to show blackie how to do it." It was not shortly after on August 8th that Manson ordered two of his family members to carry out the first two murders.  It was on the night of August 9-10th that one of the killers wrote "Healter Skelter" in blood on the refrigerator inside the house of which the murders had taken place.

Preperation

A while before Manson and his "family" had commited to actually exectuing the murders, they began to prepare for Helter Skelter.  They did this by marking out their escape route to make sure they got from Los Angeles to Death Valley safely along with preparing vehicles.  Manson believed that the song Helter Skelter had an unseen coded message that told them what route to take to get to Death Valley.  Manson had planned to start apocolyptic war in the summer of 1969.

The Begining

The murders commited by Charles Manson's "family" members were all inspired by Manson and his foreseeing of Helter Skelter.  Helter Skelter is an apocolyptic war Manson believed would come about because of the tension between the whites and the blacks.  It is said that manson had been predicting a war of racial tension for quite sometime before he started to coin the term Helter Skelter.  Manson and his "family" members had set up a base camp at Myers Ranch which is next to California's Death Valley.  Manson derived the term Helter Skelter from a song produced by the Beatles off of their White Album in 1968.
